Contact LensThere are two basic types of contact lenses.

Contact lenses are not suitable for everyone but technological developments make them an easy alternative to spectacles.

More

Rigid lenses

These are usually now made from materials which allow some oxygen to pass through them, they are called gas permeable lenses.

Soft Lenses

These lenses are larger, made of pliable materials which contain various amounts of water.

Yearly or Frequent Replacement

They are subdivided into lenses that may last up to one year or, more commonly used now are frequent replacement lenses, which is a healthier option. The planned replacement periods can be 3 months, 1 month or daily. Nearly all forms of refractive imperfection can be corrected with contact lenses. Soft lenses can also be coloured or tinted to change or enhance your eye colour.

Aftercare

Aftercare examination for contact lens wearers is quite different to a normal eye examination. We would normally expect you to attend wearing your contact lenses, having had them in your eyes for at least 4 hours prior to your appointment. Please bring your spectacles with you and make sure you let the receptionist know that you are attending for a contact lens appointment at the time of booking your examination.
