Your Eye Test Explained

At Holland Opticians, we take your eye examination very seriously. That is why we allow at least 30 minutes for each examination, which is much longer than most other opticians. We have invested heavily in the latest equipment to ensure that every part of your eye examination is as thorough and accurate as possible. With equipment like the Topcon Maestro 3D OCT for detailed scans of the back of your eyes, a Humphrey visual fields screener, and non contact tonometry machines for checking your eye pressure , it's no wonder we are considered by many to be the best opticians in Malvern.

Your eye examination consists of:

The actual eye examination itself consists of four main parts and is conducted by one of our highly experienced optometrists. The optometrists are hand picked to ensure the highest quality is maintained, irrespective of which eye care professional you have your examination with. The main parts of the eye examination include:

(a) The initial conversation and history taking:

Our optometrist will discuss in detail the reason for your visit as well as any ocular and systemic health problems. By taking a thorough history, our optometrist can establish any areas of concern and provide you with all the necessary help and advice you may require.

(b) The subjective refraction:

This is when your prescription is formulated. What ends up in your spectacles or contact lenses is a direct result of this part of the examination.

(c) The ocular examination:

The most important part of the examination bar none! William Shakespeare once said "the eyes are the windows to your soul....". How true this is. Many systemic disorders are regularly picked up at your eye examination. At Holland Opticians we use state of the art equipment including slit lamps for detailed views of the front and backs of your eyes, and the Topcon Maestro OCT to ensure no stone (or eyelid) is left unturned.

(d) The summary:

At the end of the examination our optometrist will discuss their findings, along with any prescription requirements you may (or may not) have, and the different means of correction available to you. This is your opportunity to ask your optometrist any final questions you may have thought of during the examination and to ensure you leave the examination room feeling fully satisfied. The optometrist will hand you over to a member of our dispensing team, passing on any relevant information and dispensing requirements. Should any additional tests such as a visual fields test or an OCT scan be required, the optometrist will ensure a team member completes these before you leave.
